North Chicago City Council Approves a Senior Citizen Longtime Property Tax Rebate Program
At a recent North Chicago City Council meeting, the council members approved a Senior Citizen Longtime Property Tax Rebate Program. This program is intended to provide meaningful property tax relief to qualifying senior citizens who have lived in and contributed to the North Chicago community for an extended period.
This initiative reflects the City’s commitment to supporting seniors on fixed incomes, promoting housing stability, and recognizing longtime residents who have helped shape North Chicago’s neighborhoods. Staff will now establish eligibility requirements and a rebate structure designed to ease the impact of rising property taxes while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
“Our senior residents have invested decades in this community,” said Mayor Leon Rockingham, Jr. “This rebate program is one way we can honor that commitment and help ensure that longtime homeowners can remain in their homes with dignity and financial stability.”
City officials note that the financial implications of this program have been carefully evaluated to balance targeted tax relief with the City’s broader budgetary and operational responsibilities. The City Council reviewed program details, including eligibility criteria, rebate amounts, and implementation procedures during two previous Finance and Audit Committee meetings.
