We are currently experiencing increased inspection volume. To help us meet your project needs, please schedule required inspections well in advance. It is important to ensure your project is fully ready for inspection and that approved plans are available on site. Incomplete work or permits not on display may result in the need for reinspection and/or additional delays.
Landlord Licensing
City ordinance requires all owners of residential rental properties to obtain an annual (January 1 to December 31) landlord license. Inspections must be passed every two years to obtain the required certificate of compliance. Landlord licenses are subject to the regulations and requirements of North Chicago City Code Title 5, Chapter 14. Applicants should consult the city code prior to operating a residential rental property to best understand their responsibilities. More information about the program can be found on the landlord license application form linked below.
Please note that City Code Title 3, Chapter 2, Section 14 requires the installation of a "Knox Box" key box for Fire Department access at all residential rental properties with four or more units. Contact NCFD at 847-596-8780 for more information.
