Through inspections, code enforcement, and planning, the Department of Economic & Community Development provides guidance, education, oversight, and technical assistance to the citizens and business owners of North Chicago.

The Department of Economic & Community Development is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to identify and serve the needs of all in a positive and courteous manner and to help ensure the City of North Chicago is a healthy, safe, attractive, and enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

We are currently experiencing increased inspection volume. To help us meet your project needs, please schedule required inspections well in advance. It is important to ensure your project is fully ready for inspection and that approved plans are available on site. Incomplete work or permits not on display may result in the need for re-inspection and/or additional delays.
