Honoring Heroism in North Chicago
At the October 5 City Council meeting, the North Chicago Police Department proudly presented Life Saving Awards to two community members, Julissa De Lara Flores and Froylan Barajas Hernandez, whose courageous actions saved a life on June 6, 2026.
Both individuals were recognized for their extraordinary efforts in helping a trapped person escape from a burning vehicle. Their quick thinking and selfless bravery exemplify the very best of our community.
When community members step up to save a neighbor, it’s a powerful reminder that heroism isn’t always about extraordinary people doing extraordinary things—it’s often about ordinary people choosing to act when it matters most.
THANK YOU, Julissa De Lara Flores and Froylan Barajas Hernandez, for helping your neighbor. Your actions remind us that quick action, and a willingness to help can change—and even save—a life.
Our community is stronger because of people like you both who chose to step up to help!
